Accountable Care Organizations

Accountable Care Organizations

As the implementation of healthcare reform progresses, it is more important than ever for the kidney care community to work together to optimize patient outcomes. Nephrologists are keenly aware of the need to deliver high-value care, and “accountable care” is an opportunity to be innovative and utilize skills, processes and integrated provider relationships to provide more efficient, coordinated care.

An Accountable Care Organization (ACO) is an organization of healthcare providers that agree to be accountable for the quality, cost and overall care of their patients. DaVita® is committed to working with our partners to achieve success in an ACO environment.

The Accountable Kidney Care Collaborative (AKCC) was created to support the nephrology community as it prepares to broadly participate in ACOs. The AKCC is a voluntary group that will explore how nephrologists can succeed in the world of accountable healthcare delivery. The mission is to ensure that access to critical ACO knowledge and experience is widely available to providers who treat ESRD and late-stage CKD patients.
